Mission
The dividing line between the Leeward Cobras and the rest of the wrestling community is that we are a wrestling ministry. As a ministry, we believe in the God of the bible, we believe that the bible is the inerrant word of God, we believe in the Trinity because it is taught in the bible, and most of all, we believe that God came to earth in the form of man called Jesus, went to the cross and died for our sins, and rose again on the third day to be with the father in heaven.
Our spiritual goal is for you to get saved and establish a loving and personal relationship wih our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. We are committed to serving the wrestling community through the Love of Christ starting with the team in our daily prayers, scripture reading and interpretation, and our Gospel sessions on Thursdays.
It should bring you great joy and comfort knowing that the Leeward Cobras leadership functions solely on Biblical principles and tons of prayer! The Bible tells us that, "there are no plans or counsel that can succeed against the Lord". With this in mind it is very important for us to make decisions concerning the ministry that is pleasing unto the Lord. The results of these decisions are represented in the History section below and on the Praise page. We plan to continue to follow this process until the Lord has other plans for us or until the Lord comes back for us soon!
History
The Leeward Cobras had a truly humble beginning. In 1997, the ministry started out as the "Kalihi Grapplers" with 4 kids wrestling out of the Lanakila Gymnasium on 1/2" aerobic mats. A year later, practiced moved to a 10' x 10' living room. A year later, practice moved to a 4' x 8' living room with only 2 wrestlers left. The club was dismantled and we became a part of the Waikele Wildcats for 5 years. In 2004 we wreslted out of the Palama Gymnasium as the "Palama Scorpions" with 19 wrestlers. Between '04-'05, we moved to the Halawa Gymnasium for 4 months under the name of the "Leeward Scorpions" with 30 wrestlers. Finally, in 2005, with God's Blessing, we arrived at our final destination at Calvary Chapel of Honolulu @ Komo Mai and we've been here for 20 years now. Our roster averages 40+ wrestlers.
